Valencia Grad Shares Inspiring Story on The Takeaway

Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Last fall, the radio show The Takeaway hosted by John Hockenberry, announced that they would spend a year focused on the work of the nation’s community colleges. Valencia was one of a handful of Aspen-prize winning colleges that the show spotlighted. Today, they broadcast an interview with our 2014 distinguished graduate, Angel Sanchez. If you don’t know his story, Angel was sentenced to 30 years in prison at age 16 for gang violence, and eventually left prison for Valencia where he earned a 4.0 GPA and is now at the honors program at UCF.  I don’t have any doubt that Angel will be a powerful and important leader in America sometime in the not-too-distant future.
